Our Work

What sets DIFTK apart from other organisations is not just the fact that it is entirely youth run, but that it prioritises getting to know the children and spending time with them.

Whilst many organisations and/or people may donate goods to the underprivileged, we believe that one good thing orphans particularly need is that of time which allows them to feel cared for and important.

Orphanage Assistance

Time is love and time spent at orphanages is time spent well. DIFTK members and volunteers regularly visit orphanages such as Queen Elizabeth Children's Home and Mustard Seed Communities. We either play and interact with orphans or assist the matrons with duties like laundry, kitchen and gardening.

Clean Up

Every child deserves a clean environment, and as DIFTK we love to get our hands dirty in order to achieve that environment. The Clean-Up Campaign is one initiative to get there. Currently, we pick litter at the Bulawayo City Hall.

Healing with Horses

We volunteer at Healing with Horses Therapeutic Centre with the work they do assisting underprivileged children with disabilities. These children have special needs and are in need of rehabilitation.

04

The Girl Child

DIFTK has joined the I-Pad campaign, a campaign which aims to support the girl child through aiding her with sanitary pads. We believe this to be a right for every girl child in the country, and an effort we are determined to support until such a day every Zimbabwean girl can attend school without being prohibited by a lack of sanitary wear for certain periods of the year.

CURE Hospital Visits

DIFTK is proud to work with CURE Hospital and each week we volunteer at the children's hospital. Be it reading to the kids, playing with them, attending services, or celebrating their birthdays, we have fun and stay true to our mission during each visit.

Access to Basic Needs

We are tremendously grateful to each and every single one of you that makes it possible for DIFTK to assist in alleviating the plight of the less privileged. Because of your donations in cash and kind, we are able to support various children's homes with food and clothing, we are also able to extend the helping hand to the homeless and also those who have been befallen by sudden tragedy, such as family whose home was burnt down.

Find a Book, Help a Child

Started in 2015, FABHAC is an acronym for "FIND A BOOK, HELP A CHILD." It is an initiative aimed at improving the plight of children and adults living with a disability, and more particularly with down-syndrome. Due to the costs involved in joining libraries, many literate people living with disabilties are denied the right to access books.
